There's no excuse not to.
I'm a student at a technical university and last year I decided the program I was in wasn't for me so I switched to electrical engineering. Well, I made that decision in the middle of a term which meant dropping out until I could enroll into the other program. Since I left mid-term the company that owns my student loans pulls the funding for the entire quarter. So that means I owe the school for the first part of the term that I attended.
When I went back to enroll into the new program January 19th I refinanced that outstanding balance into my new loan program. Okay, that was January 19th and today is February 23, over a month has gone by since I refinanced that amount. I got a letter in the mail today from a financial company informing me that my school had filed against me to collect the outstanding balance. I was like, um...that was refinanced into the new loan program, why are they filing against me?
So I called the company that sent me the letter and they had no idea that I'd taken care of the balance with my new loan program. So I called my financial aid administrator and as it turns out they hadn't contacted the department that handles the debts owed by students to let them know that it'd been taken care of.
We live in a society where communication with anyone around the world is instant. We have many tools out our disposal that we can use to communicate including email, cell phones, instant messenger, land line phone, etc. Add to it that I go to a technical university where they teach people how to develop and use...um, could it be....technology?
There's no excuse for them to not have informed their financial department about my new loan program. They've had more than a month to get it done and it obviously didn't happen.
It's beyond me...
